Japan's Nikkei edges lower as tech sector weighs, energy shares rise
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.43% at 62,425.47 in Monday morning trading, extending its decline to a third session, Business Recorder reported. Chip-related stocks weakened after US markets ended Friday lower, while companies linked to energy advanced as oil prices remained elevated. The index was on course for its weakest closing level since July 30.
The broader Topix moved in the opposite direction, rising 0.48% to 3,984.74. Despite more advancing shares than falling ones on the Nikkei, technology stocks’ heavy influence weighed on the benchmark: 166 constituents rose and 59 declined. Oil later retreated from a six-month peak amid reports of diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions, while a Monex Securities analyst said the market’s recovery could be slow given unresolved concerns.
