K-Electric has offered to convert Unit-1 of the 660-megawatt Jamshoro coal project to use only Thar coal, with estimated spending of $116.6 million and an 18-month completion period after financial close. Profit by Pakistan Today reported that the company would manage the work without a consultancy fee and accept responsibility for delay-related cost overruns.
In a proposal to the Power Division, K-Electric also sought appointment as project management consultant and future electricity purchaser, and requested permission to hire Harbin Electric International as contractor. The company says its feasibility study puts engineering and construction costs at $86.2 million; the wider project estimate includes other costs. It has requested procurement exemptions and financing through local or foreign institutions, while financial close remains subject to approvals, including a NEPRA tariff decision and State Bank support for foreign-currency payments.
