Govt weighs Rs3,000–Rs5,000 fertiliser subsidy as supply restrictions hit KP, Balochistan

The federal government is weighing fertiliser assistance of Rs3,000 to Rs5,000 per bag for the 2026-27 Rabi season, while movement curbs have reportedly held up deliveries to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Profit by Pakistan Today reported that Punjab is considering the lower amount and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has opted for a subsidy in kind at Rs5,000 per bag. Agricultural representatives say delays could disrupt planting and affect harvests and farm earnings, and have asked authorities to permit monitored shipments while a tracking system is put in place.
A parliamentary committee welcomed the arrival of 50,000 tonnes of imported DAP and asked the government to review import duties and GST that add to fertiliser costs. It also called for consistent subsidy arrangements and prices across provinces, noting the reported record wheat planting and a support rate of Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms for the 2026-27 crop. Chashma Sugar Mills Senior Director Iskandar Khan separately urged federal and provincial officials to resolve the supply constraints; the committee also approved amendments to the Seed Bill.
