Two gold rates

Why are there two gold rates?

The Karachi Sarafa board changes through the day as the market moves. It is credited to the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association and published online by gold.pk, and Investify shows its latest rate.

The All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) announces one rate a day, and newspapers quote that figure. The two usually sit within about 1% of each other, though they can be further apart after a sharp move in world gold, and either can be higher on a given day. Ask your jeweller which one a quote is based on.

Close = the last Karachi board rate of the day, per tola of 24K gold (for today, the latest rate so far). Change compares each close with the previous row. APGJSA announces one rate a day, so a dash means no announcement (for example on Sundays) or none yet. A linked date opens that day's gold rate report from the Investify News Desk.

24K per tola on the Karachi board. The last reading is the final saved reading of the year, not an official close. The history has one reading a day since August 2023, one a week from November 2019 to August 2023 and, before that, one a month from a third-party backfill, so years marked limited data show no high, low or change. The change compares each year's last reading with the previous year's. The Karachi board series here starts in October 2003 with 24K at Rs 9,076 per tola.

Silver units and purity

Silver is quoted per tola and per 10 grams, and also per gram. One tola is 11.664 grams, so a gram of silver costs a little over one twelfth of the tola rate. Purity matters: fine silver is 999 (99.9% silver), while sterling silver is 925 (92.5%). Jewellery and utensils are often below fine silver, so ask for the purity before you compare a price with this rate.

Where this silver rate comes from

The silver rate on this page is the APGJSA announced rate, published once a day. It does not move through the day like the Karachi board gold rate above. International spot silver is shown separately, in US dollars per troy ounce. Shops add making charges and may quote a different rate.

Understand the rate

How gold is priced in Pakistan

Gold in Pakistan is priced by the Sarafa trade, not by a government agency. These short guides explain who sets the rate, how it is calculated, what a tola and a karat are, and what to check before you buy, sell or work out zakat.
Illustration: gold bangles and chains at a jeweller's counter
Who sets the rate

Who sets the gold rate in Pakistan?

No government body fixes the price. Sarafa associations in Karachi announce the rates that jewellers and newspapers across the country follow.

Pakistan has no government-set gold price. The daily rate comes from trade associations of gold dealers, known as Sarafa associations, mostly in Karachi. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) calls the Karachi Sarafa Association the main unofficial rate-setter in its November 2025 study of the gold market. It also notes that daily rates are driven largely by associations rather than by an open, transparent market.

Investify follows two Karachi sources, because they are the two series most often quoted.

  • The Karachi Sarafa board. A live board with a buying price (bid) and a selling price (ask) for one tola of 24K gold. It is published online by gold.pk, which credits it to the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association. It changes a few times on a trading day, whenever dealers revise it.
  • The announced daily rate. The All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA) announces one rate a day, usually in the afternoon. This is the number newspapers and TV channels report, such as Rs 420,536 per tola on October 30, 2026.

A rate usually reaches the public in four steps.

  1. Dealers in the Karachi Sarafa Bazaar follow the international gold price and the dollar rate through the day.
  2. The associations set their rates from those prices and from local demand and supply, then publish them.
  3. News outlets, price websites and jewellers across the country pass the rate on.
  4. Shops in other cities follow the Karachi benchmark, then add their own charges.

The rate can pause

The association has held back its rate on some days. It did so for a day in December 2022, and rates were not issued for at least five sessions in September 2023. When that happens, this page shows the time of the last update instead of a made-up number.

Associations in Punjab also circulate voluntary price guidance, and the CCP notes that they sometimes disagree with Karachi bodies on pricing norms. Investify follows the Karachi series because the CCP identifies Karachi as the benchmark centre. See how the price is calculated.

How the price is built

How is the gold rate in Pakistan calculated?

The rate starts from the international price per ounce in dollars, is converted to rupees and scaled down to one tola, with a local premium on top.

The Pakistani rate is built from the world price. It starts with the international spot price of gold in US dollars per troy ounce. That is converted to rupees and then scaled down to one tola. Because of this, a weaker rupee raises the local price even when the dollar price does not move.

  1. Take the international gold price per troy ounce, in US dollars.
  2. Add the premium. Business Recorder and Aaj have reported the rate as the international price plus $20 per ounce.
  3. Convert to rupees at the association's dollar rate.
  4. Multiply by 0.375, because one tola is three eighths of a troy ounce.
  5. Work out 22K, 21K, 18K and the 10 gram price from the 24K tola rate.

24K rate per tola

(International price per ounce + $20) × dollar rate × 0.375

Worked example: the October 30, 2026 announcement
StepFigure
International gold price reported with the announcementAbout $3,980 per ounce
Add the stated $20 premium$4,000 per ounce
Multiply by 0.375 (ounce to tola)$1,500 per tola
Announced 24K rate (APGJSA)Rs 420,536 per tola
Dollar rate this implies: 420,536 ÷ 1,500About Rs 280.36

Our USD/PKR rate that day was lower, at about Rs 276.5, so the announced rate does not follow the market dollar rate alone.

What we do not know

The association does not publish its exact dollar rate. The $20 premium is how the press describes it, and the last row of the example is our own working back from the announced rate, not an official breakdown.

Every other figure is arithmetic. 22K is the 24K rate × 22 ÷ 24, and 21K and 18K work the same way. The 10 gram price is the tola rate × 10 ÷ 11.6638038. Investify also shows a world price for 24K gold per tola, which uses the spot price and the USD/PKR market rate with no premium, so it will not match the association's figure. Your jeweller then adds making charges and wastage, covered in buying and selling.

Why rates differ

Why do gold rates differ between websites and shops?

Two separate series exist, they are published at different times, and shops add their own charges. Here is how to tell them apart.

Search for today's gold rate and you will see several numbers, sometimes Rs 10,000 apart. Most of the difference comes from four things.

  • Two different series. The Karachi Sarafa board and the APGJSA announced rate are separate. They move together but they are not the same number. Why two gold rates compares them live.
  • Timing. The board changes through the day, while the announced rate is set once. After a sharp move in world prices, the board can sit several thousand rupees away from the last announcement until the next one. On the morning of October 31, 2026, the board was at Rs 407,500 after Friday's fall in world gold, while the last announced rate, from October 30, was Rs 420,536.
  • Calculated pages. Some sites multiply the international price by the dollar rate and call the result a Pakistani rate. That is the world price, not what Sarafa dealers charge.
  • Shop prices. The price on a tag adds making charges and wastage to the gold value, so two shops can quote different totals for the same piece on the same day.

Do cities have different rates? For the base 24K rate, barely. The CCP says markets in Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad generally follow the Karachi benchmark, with slight regional variation. Many city tables online simply repeat the Karachi rate or add small fixed amounts, so Investify shows the Karachi benchmark instead of inventing city quotes.

Why a shop's price is higher. A bill is the gold rate times the weight, plus making charges, wastage and any tax. Ask for each line separately, as described in buying and selling.

Sarafa bazaars

Where are Pakistan's main Sarafa bazaars?

Gold is traded in the old city markets of Pakistan. The CCP calls the bazaars of Karachi and Lahore the largest wholesale hubs.

A Sarafa bazaar is a market of gold dealers, goldsmiths and jewellers, usually in the old part of a city. The CCP describes the Sarafa bazaars in Karachi and Lahore as the largest wholesale hubs for gold in Pakistan. It also says small informal workshops in Karachi, Lahore and Gujranwala dominate refining.

Dealers in all of these markets work from the same Karachi benchmark. What changes from shop to shop is the making charge, the wastage and how the bill is written. A big market is useful because you can compare several shops within a few minutes' walk.

Compare before you buy

Ask two or three shops for the price of the same weight and karat, split into gold value, making charges and wastage. The totals can differ even when the gold rate is the same. See buying and selling.

Units

How many grams are in a tola? Tola, masha and ratti explained

One tola is 11.664 grams, 12 masha or 96 ratti. A troy ounce is 2.667 tola.

Gold in Pakistan is sold by the tola and by the gram. Dealers also use the older divisions masha and ratti. The usual tola is 11.6638 grams, which is 180 troy grains and exactly three eighths of a troy ounce.

Gold units compared

A tola is 12 masha, and a masha is 8 ratti, so a tola is 96 ratti.

Check which tola your jeweller means

The CCP notes that Pakistan has no official standard for the tola. The 11.6638 gram tola is the convention in the Sarafa trade, and the announced 10 gram rate uses it. The CCP also reports that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa commonly treats a tola as 12.5 grams. Ask which tola a shop uses and have the weight in grams written on the bill.

What is the difference between 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold?

Karat tells you how much of a piece is pure gold, out of 24 parts. Most Pakistani jewellery is 22K or 21K.
Illustration: a gold necklace set on a velvet display

Karat (written K, and called carat or qirat in Urdu) is the gold content out of 24 parts. 24K is almost pure gold. Lower karats are mixed with other metals, which makes the gold harder and cheaper per gram. Fineness is the same idea written in parts per thousand, and it is the number often stamped on a piece.

Karat, gold content and fineness
KaratGold contentFineness stamp
24K99.9%999
22K91.7%916
21K87.5%875
20K83.3%833
18K75%750
14K58.3%583
12K50%500

What Pakistan sells. 24K is soft, so it is sold mostly as bars, biscuits and coins. In jewellery, 22K and 21K are the karats you will see most, and 18K is common for lighter and gem-set pieces. Rate boards show 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K.

22K or 21K? 22K holds about 4.8% more gold per gram than 21K (22 ÷ 21), so it costs about that much more per gram. Lower-karat gold has more alloy, which generally makes it a little harder wearing.

Hallmarking is voluntary and patchy. The CCP's November 2025 study found only three PSQCA-certified assay centres in the whole country and described enforcement of hallmarking as limited and uneven. It also points to adulteration and karat misrepresentation as widespread problems. A stamp on a piece is only as reliable as the maker who applied it.

  • XRF (karat meter). A handheld scanner that reads the karat in seconds using X-rays. It reads only the outer layer, so heavy plating can mislead it.
  • Fire assay. The reference method in a laboratory. It requires destroying a small sample, so it is a lab test rather than a test at the shop counter.

What a wrong karat costs

A piece sold as 22K that is really 20K holds 20 ÷ 22 = 90.9% of the gold you paid for. That is 9.1% less gold, at the full 22K price.

Buying and selling

What should I check before buying or selling gold?

Making charges, wastage, the receipt and a purity test decide what you really pay or receive. Ask about each one before you agree.

The Sarafa rate is the price of the gold. What you pay at the counter is that rate times the weight, plus extra charges. Know each line before you agree.

  • Making charges (also called mazdoori or banwai). The fee for crafting the piece. The CCP reports that these run from about 5% to 20% over the gold weight, depending on the craftsmanship, the brand and the trader. Jewellers quote them as a percentage, as rupees per gram or as rupees per tola.
  • Wastage. Gold lost while shaping and finishing a piece. Some jewellers charge it as a percentage of the weight. Ask for it as a separate line.
  • Tax. Ask whether any tax is included and see it written on the bill.

Before you buy, work through this list.

  1. Check today's rate on this page and note the rate for your karat.
  2. Ask for the price in three lines: gold value (weight × rate), making charges and wastage. Compare two or three shops.
  3. Have the piece weighed in front of you and the weight in grams written on the receipt. For stone-set pieces, ask for the stone weight to be listed separately, because stones are not priced as gold.
  4. Get the karat written on the receipt. If you want proof, ask for a test on the spot.
  5. Ask for the buy-back rule in writing: what the shop deducts if you sell the piece back.
  6. Keep the receipt. It is your proof of weight, karat and price.

Selling old gold. In general, a jeweller weighs the piece, tests its purity and pays the rate for the gold it contains. Making charges are usually not paid back, and many shops deduct them or part of the wastage. We found no published standard deduction, so ask for the exact figure before you agree and compare two or three buyers.

Bars, biscuits and coins or jewellery? Bars, biscuits and coins are usually 24K and normally carry far lower charges than jewellery, so more of your money goes into the gold itself. Jewellery costs more per gram because of making charges and wastage, and you recover less of that when you sell. Because small workshops dominate refining, ask who made a bar and whether it comes with an assay certificate.

Red flags

A price far below the board rate for the same karat. A shop that will not write the karat and weight on the receipt. Pressure to decide immediately. Walk away from any of these.

Zakat

How is zakat on gold worked out?

Zakat on gold is 2.5% once you hold at least the nisab for a full lunar year. The Hanafi nisab used in Pakistan is 7.5 tola of gold.

The figures below are the ones used in Hanafi fiqh, for example in a Darul Uloom Deoband fatwa. Please confirm your own case with a scholar you trust, because rules differ between schools and depend on what else you own.

Zakat nisab for gold and silver
DetailGoldSilver
Nisab in tola7.552.5
Nisab in grams87.48 g612.36 g
Zakat rate2.5%2.5%
Held forOne lunar yearOne lunar year

Grams are worked out at 11.664 g per tola. Other scholarly standards use 85 g for gold and 595 g for silver.

  1. Add up what counts: gold, silver, cash and savings, and business stock. A Darul Uloom Deoband fatwa says that gold is added to cash and that the silver nisab applies when gold and silver are held together.
  2. Value your gold at today's rate for its karat: weight in tola × 24K rate × karat ÷ 24.
  3. If the total is at least the nisab and you have held it for a lunar year, zakat is 2.5% of the total.

Zakat on gold

Weight in tola × rate per tola for your karat × 2.5%

Example: 10 tola of 22K at Rs 385,491 per tola (the October 30, 2026 announced 24K rate of Rs 420,536 × 22 ÷ 24) is worth Rs 3,854,910, so zakat is about Rs 96,373.

Jewellery. Scholars differ on whether jewellery that is worn is subject to zakat. Scholars following the Hanafi school count it, and others do not. Ask a scholar you trust.

Not the same as the bank deduction

Separately, the government deducts zakat from eligible bank accounts at the start of Ramadan. For 2026 the nisab used for that deduction was fixed at Rs 503,529, notified on February 16, 2026. It is a different figure from the gold nisab above.

Use the zakat calculator on this page to value your gold and silver at today's live rates.

Ways to own gold

What are the ways to own gold in Pakistan?

Physical gold, regulated futures, a gold fund and tokenised gold work differently. This page explains them. It does not recommend any.

Gold can be held in several ways, each with different costs, risks and rules. Below is a plain description of each. It is information, not advice to buy or sell.

  • Bars, biscuits and coins. Gold you hold yourself, usually 24K. Pricing follows the Sarafa rate. Storage and safety are your responsibility. Buy from a dealer you trust and keep the receipt.
  • Jewellery. Gold you wear and keep as savings. Making charges and wastage mean you pay more than the gold value and may recover less when you sell.
  • PMEX gold futures. Contracts on the gold price traded on the Pakistan Mercantile Exchange, the country's regulated commodity futures exchange. Futures are leveraged and risky, and a futures price is not the cash Sarafa rate. Check each contract's size and rules with PMEX or a broker.
  • Meezan Gold Fund. A Shariah-compliant open-end fund from Al Meezan, launched in 2015, that aims to give exposure to the gold price. Check its current subscription status with the fund, because new units have been paused in the past.
  • Tokenised gold. Digital tokens backed by physical gold. In May 2025 Fasset launched gold tokens under the SECP regulatory sandbox. A sandbox licence is a limited test authorisation, not a full licence.

At our last review (the date is under Sources and method), no gold ETF was listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Gold and shares are different things

Gold pays no dividends or interest, and its price follows world gold and the rupee. A share is part-ownership of a business, which can pay dividends and carries company and market risk. Records. The record rate is Rs 572,862 per tola, set on January 29, 2026. The largest fall between two announcements is Rs 43,600, from March 20 to March 23, 2026. Internationally, Reuters reported an intraday record of $5,594.82 per troy ounce for spot gold on January 29, 2026.

What moves the price. Several things move the local rate, and they often act together.

  • The world gold price. The base of the Pakistani rate, as shown in how the price is calculated.
  • The rupee. A weaker rupee raises the rupee price even when gold in dollars is flat.
  • Global interest rates and the dollar. These shape the dollar price of gold.
  • Wedding season and Eid. The CCP says about 70% of demand is driven by weddings and festivals.
  • Duties and smuggling. Duties change the cost of legal supply. According to the CCP, tighter controls on smuggling can shrink supply and push prices up, while inflows of smuggled gold can hold official rates down.

What is the highest gold rate ever recorded in Pakistan?

The highest 24K close on the Karachi Sarafa board was Rs 579,500 per tola on January 29, 2026. The highest announced rate from the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association was Rs 572,862 on January 29, 2026. Today's rate is 29.0% below the Karachi board record.

How many grams are in one tola of gold?

One tola is about 11.664 grams (11.6638 g exactly, which is 180 troy grains). Pakistan has no official tola standard, so the Sarafa trade follows this convention. The CCP notes that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa commonly treats a tola as 12.5 grams, so ask your jeweller which one they use and have the weight in grams on the bill.

How many masha and ratti are in one tola?

One tola is 12 masha or 96 ratti, and one masha is 8 ratti. A masha weighs about 0.972 grams and a ratti about 0.1215 grams.

How many tola are in 10 grams of gold?

10 grams is about 0.857 tola, or roughly 10.3 masha. Put the other way, a 10 gram piece is a little less than one tola, which is 11.664 grams.

How do I convert grams to tola and tola to grams?

Divide grams by 11.6638 to get tola, and multiply tola by 11.6638 to get grams. For example, 50 grams is about 4.29 tola, and 5 tola is about 58.32 grams. The calculators on this page do the sum for you.

How many tola are in a troy ounce?

A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, which is 2.667 tola (exactly 8/3). International gold is priced per troy ounce, which is why the Pakistani rate multiplies the ounce price by 0.375 to reach one tola.

How many tola are in 1 kg of gold?

One kilogram is about 85.74 tola (1,000 ÷ 11.6638), or 32.15 troy ounces.

What does 22K gold mean?

22K gold is 22 parts pure gold and 2 parts other metals, so it is about 91.7% gold. It is often stamped 916, and it is one of the two karats most used for jewellery in Pakistan.

What is the difference between 22K and 21K gold?

22K is 91.7% gold and 21K is 87.5% gold, so 22K holds about 4.8% more gold per gram and costs about that much more per gram. Both are common in Pakistani jewellery. Lower-karat gold has more alloy, which generally makes it a little harder wearing.

What do 999, 916, 875 and 750 mean on gold?

These are fineness numbers: the parts of pure gold in every 1,000 parts. 999 is 24K, 916 is 22K, 875 is 21K and 750 is 18K. A stamp helps, but it is only as reliable as the maker who applied it.

Which karat is used for jewellery in Pakistan?

22K and 21K are the karats you will see most in Pakistani jewellery. 18K is common for lighter and gem-set pieces. 24K is mostly sold as bars, biscuits and coins because it is too soft for everyday wear.

How is the 22K price worked out from 24K?

Multiply the 24K rate by 22 and divide by 24 (the same as multiplying by 0.9167). For example, if 24K is Rs 420,000 per tola, 22K is Rs 385,000. 21K uses 21 ÷ 24 and 18K uses 18 ÷ 24.

How can I check if gold is pure?

Look for a hallmark, but remember that hallmarking is voluntary and patchy in Pakistan. Ask the jeweller to test the piece in front of you with an XRF karat meter, and get the karat written on the receipt. XRF reads only the surface, so for a high-value purchase you can also pay for an independent test at an assay laboratory.

Is hallmarking compulsory in Pakistan?

In practice it is voluntary. The Competition Commission of Pakistan reported in November 2025 that hallmarking protocols exist but enforcement is limited and uneven, and that only three PSQCA-certified assay centres operate nationwide. Do not assume a piece has been independently tested.

What are making charges on gold jewellery?

Making charges are the fee for crafting a piece, on top of the value of the gold. The CCP reports that they run from about 5% to 20% over the gold weight, depending on the craftsmanship, the brand and the trader. Jewellers may quote them as a percentage, rupees per gram or rupees per tola, so ask for the figure in writing.

What is wastage in gold jewellery?

Wastage is the gold lost while shaping and finishing a piece. Some jewellers charge it as a percentage of the weight. Ask for it to be shown as a separate line on the bill so you can compare shops.

How much will a jeweller pay for my old gold?

A jeweller weighs the piece, tests its purity and pays the rate for the pure gold it contains. For example, 22K is valued at 22/24 of the 24K rate. Making charges are usually not paid back, and many shops deduct part of them or of the wastage, so ask for the exact deduction before you agree and compare two or three buyers.

Is the gold rate the same in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad?

The base 24K rate is almost the same. The CCP says markets in Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad generally follow the Karachi benchmark, with slight regional variation. The price you pay in a shop differs more, because of making charges and wastage.

Who sets the gold rate in Pakistan?

Sarafa associations in Karachi do. A live board credited to the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association is published online, and the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association announces a daily rate. The government does not fix the price. See who sets the rate.

What is the APGJSA?

APGJSA stands for the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, based in Karachi. Its announced daily rate is the one newspapers and TV channels quote. The Karachi Sarafa board is a separate live rate, credited to the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association. Why two gold rates compares them.

Why do websites show different gold rates today?

Some sites copy the Karachi board and others copy the APGJSA announcement, and these are different series. The board changes through the day while the announcement is made once. Some sites also just convert the international price into rupees, which is not what Sarafa dealers charge. Why two gold rates shows both.

Why is the Pakistan gold rate different from the international price?

The international price is in dollars per troy ounce. Pakistan converts it to rupees per tola at the association's own dollar rate, and adds a premium that Business Recorder and Aaj have reported as $20 per ounce. Local demand, duties and supply matter too.

How often does this page update the gold rate?

Investify checks the Karachi Sarafa board every 5 minutes during trading hours, the international price every 30 seconds, and the announced rate when it is published. The numbers on your screen refresh by themselves. The board itself only changes when the association posts a new rate, usually a few times a day.

Where do the rates on this page come from?

The live board rate is the Karachi Sarafa board as published by gold.pk, which credits the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association, and the announced daily rate is from the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. International gold and silver prices come from gold-api.com, and the dollar rate is the USD/PKR market rate. Details are in the Sources and method section below.

Does the gold rate change on Sundays and public holidays?

The Sarafa market normally does not post new rates on Sundays, so the last rate stays on the board. International gold also stops trading at the weekend, and this page then shows the last price with its time. The same usually applies when the market is shut for a public holiday.

What are the buying and selling (bid and ask) gold rates?

On the Karachi Sarafa board, the bid is the price a dealer pays when you sell, and the ask is the price a dealer charges when you buy. The ask is higher. The gap is small next to the price, for example Rs 1,000 on a rate above Rs 400,000.

Why is there sometimes no gold rate announced?

The association has held back its rate on some days. It did so for a day in December 2022 and for at least five sessions in September 2023. When a rate pauses, this page shows the last rate with the time it was set, instead of guessing a new one.

How do I know the rate on this page is fresh?

Look at the time beside the rate. It shows when the association last changed the board, and the checked time shows when Investify last looked. If a source falls behind, the page marks the rate as delayed instead of presenting an old number as new.

What is the nisab for zakat on gold?

The commonly used Hanafi nisab for gold is 7.5 tola, which is 87.48 grams. Some scholars use 85 grams. Zakat is 2.5% of the value once you have held at least the nisab for a lunar year. Confirm your own case with a scholar.

What is the nisab for zakat on silver?

The commonly used nisab for silver is 52.5 tola, which is 612.36 grams. Other scholarly standards use 595 grams. A Darul Uloom Deoband fatwa says to use the silver nisab when gold and silver are held together, so ask a scholar which applies to you.

How much zakat do I pay on gold?

Zakat is 2.5% of the value of the gold you own, once you hold at least the nisab for a full lunar year. Multiply your weight in tola by today's rate for your karat, then by 0.025. The zakat calculator on this page does it with live rates.

Is zakat due on gold jewellery?

Scholars differ. Scholars following the Hanafi school count jewellery that is worn, while others do not. Please ask a scholar you trust.

What is a gold biscuit and how much does it weigh?

A gold biscuit is a flat 24K bar. Common sizes include a 10 tola bar, which weighs about 116.64 grams, and smaller and larger pieces are also made. Ask the dealer for the exact weight and any assay certificate.

Is the PMEX gold rate the same as the Sarafa rate?

No. PMEX is Pakistan's regulated commodity futures exchange. Its gold contracts have futures prices that follow the market but are not the same as the cash Sarafa rate. Check each contract's size and rules with PMEX or a broker before you trade.

Is there a gold ETF on the Pakistan Stock Exchange?

At our last review (the date is under Sources and method), no gold ETF was listed on PSX. Other ways to get gold exposure include the Meezan Gold Fund (check its current subscription status with the fund), PMEX gold futures and physical gold. We explain them and do not recommend any.

Is gold or the stock market better?

They are different assets. Gold pays no dividends and its price follows world gold and the rupee. Shares are part-ownership of businesses, which can pay dividends and carry company and market risk. Which suits you depends on your goals, time horizon and risk tolerance. You can browse PSX stocks to compare.

Does Investify sell gold?

No. Investify shows gold rates, charts and calculators for information. We do not buy, sell, store or advise on gold.

Will the gold rate go up or down tomorrow, and when is the best time to buy?

Nobody can forecast it reliably, and Investify does not. The rate follows world gold prices, the rupee and local demand, and demand rises around weddings and Eid. Use the chart on this page to see how the rate has moved before.

What was the biggest drop in the gold rate in Pakistan?

The largest fall between two announcements in the APGJSA series since 2011 was Rs 43,600 per tola, from Rs 491,362 on Friday, March 20, 2026 to Rs 447,762 on Monday, March 23, 2026. The rate had been above Rs 570,000 less than two months earlier.

Sources and method

  • Live board rate

The Karachi Sarafa board is the buying (bid) and selling (ask) price per tola of 24K gold that gold.pk publishes and credits to the Karachi Saraf Jewellers Association. Investify checks it every 5 minutes during trading hours, Monday to Saturday, and shows the time it last changed.

  • Announced daily rate

The All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association announces one 24K rate a day, with a 10 gram rate and a silver rate per tola. Investify checks for the announcement through the day and shows the date it applies to. When the association's figure is late reaching our data feed (often on Saturdays), the page uses the figure reported in the press that day, through the Investify News Desk, until the feed has it.

  • International prices

Spot gold and silver in US dollars per troy ounce come from gold-api.com, checked every 30 seconds while the market is open. The market is closed at the weekend, and the page then shows the last price with its time. USD/PKR is the market rate from our data provider.

  • History

Karachi board readings since 2003 come from a third-party backfill and are not daily throughout: one a month before November 2019, one a week from then until August 2023, and one a day since. Older readings are indicative only. APGJSA daily rates go back to 2011, and international reference prices to 2003, built from central-bank fixings where we have no tick of our own. Milestones in the guide come from press reports by ARY, Geo, Business Recorder, Mettis, Aaj and Reuters, and facts about the trade come from the Competition Commission of Pakistan's November 2025 study of the gold market.

  • Method and rounding

Prices are rounded to the nearest rupee. 22K = 24K × 22 ÷ 24, and the same for 21K and 18K. A 10 gram price on the Karachi board = tola rate × 10 ÷ 11.6638038 (the exact grams in a tola). The association's own 10 gram figure uses a 11.664 gram tola and can differ by a few rupees. The world price per tola = spot price × USD/PKR × 0.375.

Rates on this page are indicative. They are not financial, investment, tax or religious advice. Your jeweller's price includes making charges, wastage and any tax, and can differ from the rates shown here. Ask a qualified scholar about zakat.
