Official rates of beef and mutton increased by Rs50-100 per kg in Karachi
Dawn • • 1 min read

Karachi’s administration has revised official beef, veal and mutton prices upward by Rs50-100 per kg, Dawn reported on November 6. The newly notified rates put beef at Rs1,050 per kg with bones and Rs1,350 without; veal is set at Rs1,350 and Rs1,650, respectively. Mutton’s official rate is now Rs2,300 per kg, compared with Rs2,200 previously.
Prices in shops remain above the notified levels: the report puts Karachi mutton at Rs2,200-3,000 per kg and veal at Rs1,500 with bones and Rs1,700-1,800 without. Merchants attributed cost pressures to higher meat exports, transport expenses, LPG at Rs500-550 per kg versus Rs380 a few months earlier, and elevated diesel rates. The changes add to food-price pressure, while the gap between official and market prices persists.
At a glance
- Official mutton prices rose to Rs2,300 per kg.
- Official beef and veal rates increased by Rs50 per kg.
- Market prices remain above notified rates for several cuts.
