Business Recorder reported that Meezan Bank has signed off on 6,880 housing finance cases worth roughly Rs49 billion under the GHTA scheme, the government's subsidised home financing initiative. According to the bank, 1,000 families have so far received financing amounting to Rs7.34 billion, with figures current to September 30, 2026. The statement was released on Friday.
Meezan has also taken in more than 27,800 applications, collectively valued at about Rs179 billion, via its own channel and the PHA. Of these, 13,474 applications totalling Rs100.7 billion came through the bank's channel, while a further 14,397 files, worth Rs78.65 billion, arrived via the PHA network.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif introduced GHTA on April 30, 2026, to ease the housing shortage through affordable, extended-term loans for households on modest and middle incomes. The design drew on discussions with private sector stakeholders, the finance ministry and the SBP. The scheme provides Shariah-compliant housing finance, and Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Group Head Consumer Finance at Meezan, said the bank wants to help turn home ownership aspirations into reality for thousands of families.
