Singapore Airlines to splash $1.6 billion on luxury long-haul cabins as rivals up their game
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

Singapore Airlines will spend more than S$2 billion, equivalent to $1.6 billion, on new long-haul cabins across four travel classes, with the redesigned seats expected to enter service from the second half of 2027. The programme covers 72 aircraft and includes larger first-class double-bed suites and business-class seats with privacy doors.
Business Recorder reported that the investment combines a previously announced S$1.1 billion refurbishment of A350 aircraft with upgrades for Boeing 777-9 jets, and will be financed from the airline’s cash balance. Certification delays have affected the rollout, including a delay of about six months for the A350 seats. The spending comes as airlines compete for premium travellers, while higher fuel costs are pressuring margins and economy passengers are more sensitive to fares.
