BAFL completes sale of Afghanistan operations to Ghazanfar Bank
Mettis Global • • 1 min read

Bank Alfalah (BAFL) completed the transfer of its Afghanistan banking business to Ghazanfar Bank on November 5, 2026, Mettis Global reported. The transaction covers the business conducted through the lender’s Kabul and Herat branches, together with the associated assets and liabilities.
The bank said the deal moved forward after transaction agreements were signed, regulatory approvals were received from the State Bank of Pakistan and Da Afghanistan Bank, and outstanding conditions were satisfied. Bank Alfalah has ended its banking activity in Afghanistan and will close its branches there under applicable regulatory requirements.
The completion follows earlier disclosures, including a non-binding proposal from Ghazanfar Bank in December 2025 and in-principle regulatory clearance for due diligence in January 2026. The proposed sale had still depended on due diligence, final agreements and required legal and regulatory approvals.
