PM Shehbaz Sharif arrives in Kyrgyzstan for SCO summit, bilateral talks

Pakistan's prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, reached Bishkek on Monday, starting a three-day official trip to Kyrgyzstan, according to Mettis Link News. He is taking part in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation sessions and will hold separate talks with leaders from Kyrgyzstan and other member states. Kyrgyz Cabinet chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev received him at Manas International Airport.

Shehbaz is set to represent Pakistan at the SCO leaders' gathering and the SCO Plus Summit during the trip. Pakistan also formally takes on the SCO chairmanship for the 2026 to 2027 term. Talks with President Sadyr Zhaparov are scheduled for September 2, and they are expected to cover trade, investment, energy, regional connectivity, education and tourism. He is also due at the opening of the World Nomad Games, which Kyrgyzstan is hosting.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar are part of the delegation along with senior officials. The report says the visit builds on recent high-level exchanges and seeks to turn political goodwill into tangible collaboration in several fields. The trip also offers Pakistan a chance to broaden its ties across Central Asia within the SCO structure.
