Pakistan has 100 million TikTok, 96 million YouTube users, PTA tells NA panel

Pakistan has about 100 million TikTok users and 96 million YouTube users, figures presented by PTA Chairman Hafeez ur Rehman to a National Assembly committee on Tuesday. He said people in Pakistan watched or uploaded nearly 150 million TikTok videos each day, while YouTube viewing reached around 560 million videos daily; he also described Pakistan as the world’s leading country for YouTube viewership.

The committee also heard that 18 million people use 5G services, available in 24 cities, but lawmakers questioned persistent connectivity problems and weak 4G and 3G access. The IT minister cited theft of towers, diesel and generators as factors behind outages, while the PTA chairman said the regulator had instructed telecom operators to improve service after inspections in 41 districts. He described formal notices as a last option, citing operators’ court challenges to penalties.
