Pakistan gets assurances from China, Kuwait for $4.3 billion loan rollovers after Saudi extension

Pakistan has secured assurances for $4.3 billion in loan extensions from China and Kuwait, following Saudi Arabia’s completed rollover of $3 billion, The Express Tribune reported, citing Finance Ministry sources. China’s commitment covers $4 billion and Kuwait’s $300 million, though neither arrangement has yet been put into effect.

The three countries’ extensions are expected to defer repayment by about a year and provide $7.3 billion of relief against external obligations estimated at $21 billion this fiscal year. Finance Ministry sources also expect a $1.21 billion IMF disbursement in December. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said Saudi Arabia had already extended its loan, and that Pakistan was pursuing market financing, including bonds, to manage upcoming repayments.
