LPG availability, fair pricing among govt priorities, says petroleum minister

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said on Saturday that the government is prioritising reliable LPG supplies and fair prices. Dawn reported that the statement followed the launch of a policy under which four state-owned enterprises are to resume LPG imports through government-to-government and business-to-business deals.

The new framework reserves 10 per cent of locally produced LPG for government-owned marketers serving remote areas, with the other 90pc offered through open auctions. Buyers will face a daily limit of 20 metric tonnes, while production data is to be tracked and shared with the prime minister. The measures come as Iranian border closures have disrupted supply and cylinders have reportedly traded at twice the official rate.
