Tesla to add Cybertruck shift to clear orders before dismantling line next year
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

Tesla plans to add a production shift to work through pending Cybertruck orders before taking apart the Texas production line around June or July next year, CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday. The line is expected to be repurposed for an expansion of Cybercab manufacturing.
Musk said the existing backlog exceeds what Tesla can produce before the line is dismantled, and the additional shift is intended to complete orders beforehand. A day earlier, he had said the company would reduce Cybertruck output at the Texas factory and move resources to the two-seat Cybercab, a robotaxi central to Tesla’s autonomous-vehicle plans.
Cybertruck sales in the United States fell to about 20,000 last year from nearly 39,000 in 2024, according to Kelley Blue Book, well below Musk’s original forecast of 250,000 annual sales. Since deliveries began in late 2023, the pickup has also experienced recalls and quality concerns, while its design has constrained prospects in overseas markets such as Europe.
