Thatta Cement enters EV business with plans to import affordable Chinese vehicles
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

Thatta Cement’s board has approved funding for a wholly owned subsidiary to sell electric vehicles in Pakistan, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. The new business is expected to begin by bringing fully assembled models from China, with compact, lower-cost vehicles aimed at buyers outside the premium segment. The company has not revealed the investment size, supplier names or a sales launch date, and says local assembly could be considered later.
The announcement came alongside FY2026 results: consolidated sales advanced 26.3% to Rs11.93 billion, but after-tax profit slipped 2.9% to Rs2.28 billion. Higher finance costs and reduced other income accompanied the decline, while earnings per share fell to Rs4.80 from Rs5.66. The board proposed a Rs0.50-per-share cash dividend for minority shareholders, with major shareholders waiving their entitlement; the annual meeting is set for November 27.
