‘Tariff hike applies only to package beneficiaries’
Dawn • • 1 min read

Dawn reported that Nepra approved a Rs25.30 per unit increase on Friday for the marginal electricity rate under the Incremental Consumption Package. The power division said the change covers industrial and agricultural users participating in the scheme, rather than constituting a broader rise in industrial electricity tariffs. Its spokesperson issued the clarification after the determination prompted questions about who would pay more.
The division attributed the package rate revision to higher marginal generation costs amid the prevailing US-Iran war. It said the revised rate is temporary and takes effect from November 2026. According to the spokesperson, the adjustment is intended to keep the cost of relief within the package rather than pass it on to other electricity consumers, particularly those who do not qualify.
