Power Division clarifies Rs25.30 per unit rate applies only to incremental electricity consumption
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

The Power Division says the Rs25.30-per-unit rate taking effect in November 2026 applies only to extra electricity used under the Incremental Consumption Package by industrial and agricultural customers. It does not replace the general industrial tariff, the division said in response to media coverage it described as misleading.
The average industrial rate was Rs34.40 per kWh before taxes in October 2026, while the division said rates had fallen by about Rs18.94 per unit, including taxes, since March 2024. The revised package rate reflects higher marginal generation costs linked to the prevailing war situation and is intended to keep the scheme’s costs from falling on non-participating consumers. From December 2025 to September 2026, the package covered 6,940 GWh of extra use and provided an estimated Rs43.5 billion in relief; 209,335 of 518,316 eligible consumers took part.

- The Rs25.30 rate applies to incremental use under the package, not the general industrial tariff.
- The scheme provided an estimated Rs43.5 billion in relief through September 2026.
