NEPRA closes proceedings against Saif Power over delayed synchronisation
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

NEPRA has ended its case against Saif Power Limited without imposing a regulatory fine, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. The inquiry concerned the company’s delayed return of generating units to the grid after the countrywide outage of January 23, 2023. The authority said the contractual arrangements already covered such delays and the record did not support an additional penalty.
Saif Power told the regulator that its power purchase agreement provided for penalties, and that the power purchaser had already penalised it. The company also cited its units’ automated start-up sequence and safety procedures. NEPRA’s review found that GT-1 synchronised at 1:30am, while the steam turbine generator came online at 1:08am on January 24, after NPCC instructions at 11:26pm and 12:50am respectively. Following a hearing in August 2025, the authority closed the matter, also referring to proportionality and consistency with similar cases.
