Pioneer Cement commissions 28MW solar power plant in Punjab

Pioneer Cement has brought a 28.265MW solar plant into operation at its Chenki manufacturing site in Khushab, Punjab, Business Recorder reported on November 3. The company told the Pakistan Stock Exchange that the project’s planned capacity has since been raised to 31MW, with the added capacity expected to start operating within the next month.

Once fully commissioned, solar power is expected to cover about 45% of Pioneer Cement’s yearly electricity needs. The company said the project should lower power expenses, support more efficient operations and contribute to profitability and sustainability. The development comes amid wider adoption of solar power by energy-intensive industries in Pakistan; the source also notes that growth in solar generation has raised challenges for the national grid and distribution companies.
