Pioneer Cement signs deal for 15MW battery storage system, additional 10MW solar plant at facility in Khushab

Pioneer Cement has contracted Pragmatic Engineering Solutions FZE and China’s Sungrow Power Supply Co. to install a 15MW battery storage system and a separate 10MW solar plant at its Chenki facility in Khushab. The company disclosed the agreement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on November 6, with completion targeted for March 31, 2027. The battery system will store 30MWh, enabling daytime solar power to be used when demand peaks.

Pioneer said the projects are intended to curb grid dependence, reduce energy expenses and strengthen grid stability, but it did not provide the investment amount or expected savings. The announcement follows a November 3 update that a 28.265MW solar plant at the site had been commissioned, with capacity raised to 31MW and the additional portion expected online within a month. Pioneer previously estimated renewable sources would cover about 45% of its yearly electricity needs after that solar project is commissioned; the latest additions are separate, and their effect on that share was not specified.
